error c00000034 windows 7 SP1

March 15, 2011

***I think this fix works for most of the update problems. When the windows updates gets stuck before it loads into the operating system, try this fix. I have used it a few times to get past the update issues.

Today i ran into the first problem/botched install of SP1 for windows 7. When you start up the pc is gets past the windows loading screen, then gives an error C00000034, which will eventually turn into a fatal error C00000034. I went into the “repair your computer” and checked for a restore point. There were no restore points, so that fix was out of the question. The pc would not boot into safe mode either.

***Try to do a restore point before trying this fix…usually you can push through it with a restore point.

**The fix

I found the fix from the Microsoft site and it worked just fine. Here it is.

1. Press f8 while pc is booting up

2. Select “repair your computer”

3. Put in the username and password, then click command prompt

4. Type c:

5. *type these commands in one at a time!

Reg load HKLM\BaseSystem C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM

Reg Delete “HKLM\BaseSystem\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager” /v SetupExecute

Reg add “HKLM\BaseSystem\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager” /v SetupExecute /t REG_MULTI_SZ

Reg unload HKLM\BaseSystem

6. Reboot the system, wait for it to do its own thing. It should now load into the operating system.

The customers PC i did this on somehow still had SP1 even though it clearly said it was reverting changes. Who knows, who cares; It worked, that is really all that matters. Goodluck
