Cd drive doesnt show up. code10 or code 52 in Device manager

May 10, 2011

This is a very old fix. I have had to use it to many times to possibly keep track. If your CD drive opens, the lights work, but it wont show up on your computer, chances are that the CD drive is just fine.

**The fix

1. Right click on my computer and go to properties.

XP (click hardware, then device manager)

Vista/7 (click device manager)

2. If the device manager has an exclamation point next to the CD/dvd drive, go to start, run, regedit. (vista and 7 users can just press the start menu and type regedit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Delete any upper and lower filters that are found inside the above registry key and restart the PC.

**There is also a fix it utility from Microsoft.
