Internet explorer default search provider corruption. Pops up everytime IE opens.

March 25, 2012

So when you open internet explorer you get this message (“A program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting in Internet Explorer.”). This is how to fix it.

Vista/7

1. Go to control panel and select folder options. Make it so that you can see Hidden files and folders.

2. Go to c:\users\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\protect

3. Rename CREDHIST to CREDHIST.old

4. Restart internet explorer and it should work fine!

Good luck, hope this works….alot of what other people had said to do online did not work for us.
