Windows update error code 80246008, Background intelligence service doesnt show up in services list

July 22, 2012

After some malware infections, your windows services can be pretty spotty. I have seen viruses remove the BFE, BITS, and windows update service from the services list. It should look like these screenshots.

Without service installed on PC (missing from services list)

With service installed on PC

When you go to windows update, you may get an error code 80246008. If this is the error you keep getting, even after running the MS fix it 50202, this will fix your issue.

*The fix*
